Victors Keep It Tight Early, Hartfield Pulls Away

The Hartfield Academy Hawks defeated the Jackson Victors Friday night in Ridgeland, MS.

The Hartfield Hawks struggled early as the Jackson Victors jumped to a 6-0 lead initially. Ethan Hendry jumpstarted the game with a three pointer and free throw, followed by a Gideon Peacock layup that got this lead for the Victors. The Hawks stormed back, going on a 13-0 run to lead 13-6. This lead was zapped away by the Victors due to more points from Hendry. At the end of the first quarter, the score was tied at 13.

The second quarter began with a burst of three pointers by the Hawks. Lead by seniors Josh Lee and Jonathan Lucas, the Hawks built a lead they would never relinquish. They took a 14 point lead at halftime, 45-31, after a 32 point second quarter.

The game would get further away from the Victors grips as Hartfield continued to expand the lead, finally winning 86-50.

Depth was a big factor in Hartfield’s win. Victors’ head coach Stacy Crosby held a tight rotation, while the Hawks had a very large bench. Senior guard Josh Franklin fouledout after a hard fought game late in the fourth quarter.

The Hartfield Hawks (5-0) will host Winston Academy Saturday night in Flowood. The Jackson Victors (2-2) will next take the court against the Hawks again on Dec. 1.
