Undefeated Counselors Pull Out of 16UB Playoffs After First Brackets Released

The top team in the 16U boys division of the MSAHA have withdrawn from playoff competition. Monday morning, the Muddy River Counselors announced that they would not be participating in the MSAHA 16UB Playoffs. This decision was made after review of the MSAHA Playoff brackets, where there were conflicts for the Counselors 16U and 18U teams based on one win for each.

The Counselors are uniquely affected by these conflicts. Muddy River’s 16U and 18U starting lineups share four of the five starters. In order to comply with the bracket, the Counselors would have to split up their team between two locations without their full strength team in either place.

The Counselors have been the clear #1 team in the league. Their perfect 11-0 record had them at the #1 seed in the league. Without the Counselors involved, the 19-2 PCA Paladins are the heavy favorites to win the tournament. The Counselors were previously set to match up with the #8 seeded Tupelo Titans in the first round. The new edited brackets will most likely be released soon.

The Muddy River Counselors will now compete in just 18U girls & boys. As the #2 seed in 18UB, the Counselors will have a legit shot to try and knock off the PCA Paladins to win the title.
