[TOUGALOO, MS] On Thursday night, the Tougaloo College Bulldogs took a major home win over the visiting Philander Smith College Panthers by a score of 73-61.
The Philander Smith Panthers came into the game with the top spot in the GCAC conference with an 11-2 conference record. Early in the game, the Panthers came out taking the lead. Leading by as much as 6 early on, the Panthers appeared as if this might be a repeat of the first meeting between the two teams.
The first matchup up in Little Rock, AR finished with an 87-62 victory for Philander Smith in a game where they led by nearly 20 at halftime.
But that was the last time the Bulldogs had lost a game. Riding a 6-game winning streak, the Bulldogs came into the game with a heightened sense of confidence. The Bulldogs made a run, taking a 36-32 lead at halftime.
The second half belonged to the Bulldogs. After having a 53-48 lead, Tougaloo went on a 10-0 run pushing the lead out to 15 with some dynamic plays, including some eye-popping dunks from Keondre Montgomery.
The Bulldogs led the game by as much as 18 and closed out a 73-61 win to take over the #1 spot in the GCAC. Montgomery led the way with 21 points. Wes Taylor played a fantastic game as well, finishing with 10 points, 4 assists, and 4 rebounds.
Tougaloo will take the floor again on Saturday at home against Wiley College (TX). The game will be streamed live on the TSJW Network YouTube channel at 5PM.
