The MSAHA Approaching Its Closing Hour as The 16U Tournament Nears

We are right at the cusp of the 2023-2024 MSAHA basketball season, meaning that many teams are hitting their peak performance.

There is not much time left before the MSAHA varsity championship tournament, not to mention the 16u championship tournament that is happening in only 10 days as of the time of writing this column.

The 16u bracket is a tight one, and there is no way around it.

The top three teams are neck and neck, with Hattiesburg barely getting the win over PCA down in Lacombe, Louisiana. The game only ending in a 3pt difference (36-33).

PCA has tons of talent on their 16u squad and height on top of that with Hayes Peace.

However, Hattiesburg has plenty of talent and height as well, and they were missing a prominent player in their last face off against PCA. This player being Keller Russell, who averages 9.4pts per game on average in JV.

It will be interesting to see these teams face off for a second time with new personnel and in a new gym as well, which can play a huge part in the performance of a team.

At the forefront of all of this though are the Muddy River Counselors who are still dominating all brackets, and are for sure the favorites going into this 16u tournament.

This tournament is going to be a doozy, and will be held up in Raymond, MS. I hope you’re doing well, and I hope to see you there.
