“The Bulldog Showdown“
[BRANDON, MS] The Terry (HS) Bulldogs lost its first regional game of the season to a strong team in the Brandon (HS) Bulldogs on Brandon Bulldog grounds by a score of 41-13.
The Terry Bulldogs began with an explosive start, gaining yards and stopping the offense of the Brandon Bulldogs. As the game started to pick up late in the first quarter, the returning running back, Sharonsky Johnson, made the first touchdown, followed by a field goal by Patrick Bracey II, putting the Terry Bulldogs in the lead 7 to 0. Once the Terry Bulldogs made the touchdown, the Brandon Bulldogs snapped into an entirely new gear. With only a minute remaining, Brandon got a fumble and went right into the endzone, making the game an even playing field.
As the second quarter began, the Brandon Bulldogs just picked up where they left off, with their explosive offense, scoring within their first two possessions of the quarter, exclaiming why they are ranked number one. Before halftime, with only two minutes remaining, the Terry Bulldogs made their second touchdown of the night, by wide receiver OJ Marshall, who unarguably played his best game of the season, making him the player of the night. As the game progressed, the injury bug caught up to the Terry Bulldogs, with countless players facing cramps, ankle sprains, and knee injuries. Still, linebacker Amarrien Bailey and safety Donald Passmore created a standstill in Terry’s defense, but it was not enough. The Brandon Bulldogs, for the rest of the game, snapped into another level, which was too much for the Terry Bulldogs.
In the end, the Brandon Bulldogs defeated Terry Bulldogs with a concluding score of 41 to 13. When asked about the upcoming game and how the team will recuperate with the number of injuries against the Northwest Rankin Cougars, the head coach of the Terry Bulldogs, Kris Thigpen, stated, “It’s the next man up. Some guys will have to play offense and defense, but we will prepare for that also.” The overall goal for the following week is to be 1-0 for Terry’s Homecoming and, for the first time in school history, beat the Northwest Rankin Cougars.
