Terry Bulldogs Look to Match Last Season’s Win Total with Win Over Murrah

The Terry (HS) Bulldogs are on the precipice of matching last season’s win total without losing a game. Their opportunity will present itself tomorrow night at 7:30 PM against the Murrah (HS) Mustangs.

The Bulldogs have already made a mark by going 2-0 for the first time since 2018, the first time in Kris Thigpen’s tenure as coach. This Bulldogs team has been characterized as having a “hungry” defense. This Terry defense has held opponents to seven points in the two games, and with the offensive explosion that occurred in the matchup against Crystal Springs, the Bulldogs have scored 69 over the same two games.

Terry began the season matched up with cross-town rival, the Raymond (HS) Rangers. After a week of nonstop rain, the conditions of the field were less than optimal. The Bulldogs’ offense struggled to find rhythm yet they produced enough to capture a 14-7 win at Raymond Field. The Bulldogs worked the following week to tighten the offense up for Week 2 knowing in the back of their minds that they would probably be more successful on a dry field.

Week 2 was against Crystal Springs. It was the home opener for the Terry Bulldogs for the 2022 season. The place was rocking. The band was sensational as always and the crowd was packed with some standing. The Bulldogs started off teh ball game with a 7-0 score at the end of the first period. The second period was an absolute demolition job. the Bulldogs won the second quarter 28-0, running up a 35-0 halftime lead. The Bulldogs never looked back, winning the ball game 55-0.

This week, the Terry Bulldogs will face the Murrah Mustangs. The Mustangs are 0-2 with losses to Cleveland Central and Callaway. But they should not be underestimated; both losses were not blowouts and they are the first 6A opponent for the Bulldogs this season.

With a win, the Terry Bulldogs will be 3-0 for the first time since 2018, but they also will match the win total of their 3-7 finish from last season. This Terry Bulldogs squad appears strong and motivated for the game Friday night.

The game was scheduled to be hosted by Murrah but due to the Jackson water crisis, the game will be held at Forest Hill High School in South Jackson. Kick-off will be at 7:30 PM. Coverage will be executed by TSJW Network with Trellis Williams and Patrick Bullock on the call.
