[JACKSON, MS] The Terry (HS) Bulldogs continued their early season dominance with a 35-0 stand over the Murrah (HS) Mustangs.
The Bulldogs pulled no punches to begin the game. Sharonsky Johnson rushed for two touchdowns in the first six minutes, pushing a 13-0 lead.
Murrah then slowed the pace of the Terry offense, forcing a turnover on downs late in the first quarter. The Mustang offense was unable to muster anything despite the elusive running ability of quarterback Ja’Quavious Fleming and running back Broderick Gholar Jr. The Bulldog defense was just too stifling with a highlight on senior defensive lineman Ty’Land Coleman being real active early.
In the second quarter, Sharonsky was able to plunge through the goal line for his third touchdown of the game, his sixth of the season.
At halftime, the Terry Bulldogs had a 20-0 lead. The Bulldogs added some more points on the board with Jordan Magee and DeUndrez Johnson touchdowns. The Bulldogs converted a two-point conversion to start the running clock at a 35-point lead.
This game was extra significant for Jordan Magee as he transferred from Murrah two years ago. He had a solid performance in the win. Sharonsky continued his tear but did not return to the game after getting his ankle caught in the pile. Kris Thigpen, head coach of the Bulldogs described it as a “mild ankle sprain” and that “he should be good.”
With that win, the Terry Bulldogs (3-0) have matched last season’s win total and are looking to top it at home next week against the Poplarville (HS) Hornets, who stand at 2-1 on the year. The Hornets defeated the Bulldogs last season 35-16 down in Poplarville. The Hornets compete in the 4A division and are known for their football. That will be a big test for the Terry Bulldogs next week.
Terry now has outscored their opponents 104-7 in the first three games with the second straights shutout for the ball club.
