PCA Paladins and Muddy River Counselors Enter October: How Do They Look Now?

Inhales deeply*

Do you smell that?

Yep, that’s the smell of post-game basketball shoes, extra cheesy nachos, and that jersey that you forgot to take out of your bag from last game…

Doesn’t it smell so nostalgic?

If it does or doesn’t, it’s not that big of deal because that’s enough smelling.

Now, let’s get into what’s happened during this first full week of 2023-2024 MSAHA basketball.

First off, the Muddy River Counselors went down to Hickory to face the Meridian Flyers for the first game of their season.

Muddy River came into the game with confidence, and was able to capitalize on that feeling, doing what they do best: forcing turnovers, behind-the-back passes, and jumping so high it makes you say, “that’s unfair bro.”

Needless to say, the Counselors came out with the dub. However, I will say that Cooper Franklin (#11) and Brody Coker (#33) both had good games for Meridian, scoring majority of the points for their team.

Moving on to another game (and no, I am not paid by Meridian), we have the Meriden Flyers vs. the PCA Paladins.

Again, I am surprised by Meridian.

Now, to PCA’s defense, their team isn’t the same team that we saw last year, and they still definitely came out with the win. Beating a team by 23 points is nothing to be ashamed of.

But, you do have to give credit to Meridian for holding a team like PCA (last season’s undisputed champions) to only a 23 point victory.

I can guarantee that most people didn’t expected that.

Two claps for Meridian–

clap* clap*

I am curious though, if PCA’s entire team was at that Meridian game.

Players like Scottie Covert are huge offensive weapons for them, and if players like him were not able to make it to that game but are still on the team, then we shouldn’t jump to conclusions.

Either way, seeing our two top teams from last season play their first games of 2023 has again lit that fire under me to get out there and keep grinding.

So, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got to go shoot 100 free throws.

See you on the MSAHA Basketball Weekly Show.
