[HATTIESBURG, MS] The highly anticipated MSAHA Game of the Week was ruled and schooled by the Muddy River Counselors as they never trailed in their 67-37 blowout win over Hattiesburg.
Going into the game, the Hattiesburg Forerunners were undefeated with a 4-0 record. The Counselors have sputtered to begin the season against some tough competition and narrowly beat PCA on the road. Hattiesburg defeated the Counselors in the playoffs last season, and with incoming senior transfer Brayden Dry joining the squad, Hattiesburg was looking do it again.
The game began slowly for both teams with Muddy River outpacing Hattiesburg for a 17-10 advantage. Hattiesburg made a big run however, pulling the game to a 23-21 match. After that, the Counselors pushed the pace, leading at halftime 30-23. The second half was all Counselors. The outside shots began to fall and Muddy River’s patented fast break was in full effect.
Muddy River outscored Hattiesburg 37-14 in the second half in route to a 67-37 victory.
Sun Michael Williams led the way for the Counselors with 27 points. Caleb Sanders was in foul trouble in the first half, only having two points at the half. He had 18 points by the end of the game. Luke Sanders put in 13, while Rydell Breakfield chipped in 9.
Muddy River takes the floor again Nov. 28 on the road against Parklane Academy. Hattiesburg hosts the Jackson Victors on December 1st.
