Muddy River Prevails Over PCA in 47-42 Thriller

[LaCOMBE, LA] The Muddy River Counselors held off the PCA Paladins Saturday afternoon to become the team to beat in the MSAHA.

Last season, the PCA Paladins won the MSAHA Championship by going undefeated in conference and winning on Championship Saturday against the Muddy River Counselors. PCA lost four of their five starters from last year’s team, while Muddy River returned all five starters from last seasons runner-up team.

The Counselors began the game by taking a 19-8 in the first quarter. In the second period, PCA reeled it back in behind tough defense and balanced offense. At the half, Muddy River’s lead had dwindled to a 24-21 advantage at intermission.

The ended up taking the lead in the third quarter, being up 36-35. The Counselors had a struggle shooting the ball but their defense remained active.

Down the stretch, Muddy River had clutch performances from Rydell Breakfield and Luke Sanders, who led the team with 16 and 14 points respectively. The Counselors pulled away after being tied 42-42 to win the game 47-42 on the road.

The Counselors (3-0) will take on the Jackson Prep Patriots on the road on Thursday, Nov. 9th.
