[Raymond, MS] On Thursday, the Laurel Knighthawks were on the road to take on the Muddy River Counselors. Entering this competition, Laurel knew that this game would be very similar to Tuesday’s contest against the Jackson Victors, it would be a fast paced game. Laurel had to respect the Counselors ability to shoot the three ball. In order to win, the Knighthawks would have to play team and fundamental basketball. I know that I have mentioned that a lot, but it is true. For Laurel to win, they have to play together.
When the game started, the Knighthawks came out flat. They failed to move the ball well and attempted forced shots. This type of play resulted in a lot of missed shots. However, Laurel pulled it together and played like a team. The first half ended with the Knighthawks leading 26-28.
The second half was all Knighthawks. They played tight defense and executed team offense. The result was a 59-66 Laurel victory. The Knighthawks are on a 5 game win streak. The team’s motto of “Team Ball” has been a cornerstone of their success. Of the seven players that scored, three players were in double digits. Caleb Jenkins and Kai Welch were a force down low, combining for 29 points. Silas Ensign stole the show scoring 22, including 4 three pointers.
The Laurel Knighthawks (6-1) will resume regular season play on Monday. They will travel to take on Russell Christian. Tip off is at 7:30 P.M.
