[Slidell, LA] On Saturday January 29, 2022, the Laurel Knighthawks defeated the PCA Paladins 57-56. This was Laurel’s core group of varsity players’ last regular season game, it was also possibly Coach Cliff Jenkins’ last regular season game as the Knighthawks’ head coach.
Laurel started off hot by sharing the ball and out-hustling PCA. The other thing the Knighthawks did well was beat the Paladins press. In the second quarter however, Laurel went cold. Couple that with hot shooting by PCA, Laurel held a 33-21 lead at halftime.
The second half saw outstanding play by the Paladins. PCA’s shooting was on point. They executed the press flawlessly, and rebounded exceptionally well. Fortunately for Laurel, Knighthawk players kept putting the ball in the hoop consistently. When the clock ran out, Laurel won 57-56.
As I stated before, this was the Knighthawk core group’s last regular season game. In their time together, they’ve won north of 100 games, 3 state championships (16U (2) – 18U (1)). This game also signified the end of the Coach Cliff era. Coach Cliff is one of the best coaches anyone could ask for, and his service for the Laurel Knighthawks organization is greatly appreciated.
Usually this is the time in the article I tell you about Laurel’s next game. This one though, is different. This is because…. IT’S PLAYOFF TIME!
