[HATTIESBURG, MS] A few hours into the afternoon, the Hattiesburg Forerunners left the parking lot of First Presbyterian Church to head to the capital to face off against the Jackson Victors.
The long car ride gave each player from the Forerunners plenty of time to mentally prepare for the games to come, and by the time they finally reached the gym, they were locked in.
After suiting up in the locker room, they hit the floor and began warming up.
An hour later the buzzer rang, starting line ups were announced and the first game (JV) began.
The game started off with a quick bucket off the tip from Keller Russell, the team captain of that starting squad.
Nonetheless, the Victors ended up taking the lead (5-8) before the second squad for the Forerunners entered the game at the three minute mark of the first quarter. This squad’s captain being yours truly.
Upon first entering the game, my squad had a couple of turnovers and missed opportunities, but after shedding the first-game jitters and the first quarter coming to a close, we settled in and got to work.
The starting play of the second quarter I got the ball rolling and drained a 3-pointer from the right wing.
Hitting your first shot of the season just feels special, and it’s magnified when that shot is from behind the arc.

In order to cover the entire night’s action, we must also discuss varsity.
With Brayden Dry becoming a very powerful player on our team, it changes the dynamic of how we play the game.
Brayden did his job and raked in 17 pts for us.
Turnovers and free throws cost us more than they should have, and we have to clean those things up, but it was the first game of a long season.
