With the month of November nearing its end, the players of the MSAHA conference are experiencing their first scheduled break of this season, Thanksgiving break.
The Muddy River Counselors and the Hattiesburg Forerunners are the only two teams that have yet to take a loss this season, and ironically they are preparing to play each other on the 27th.
This means that one of them won’t be undefeated for much longer…
Last season, the Forerunners were able to beat the Counselors for the first time in the 3 years during the MSAHA Playoffs, forcing Muddy River to battle back through the loser’s bracket.
However, Muddy River was able to beat Hattiesburg in the end last season, and they went on to play against the PCA Paladins on Championship Saturday.
With last season’s tournament ending in a 1-1 record and this season having both teams still being undefeated going into Thanksgiving Break, you can only imagine the anxiety and buzz the players of these teams are feeling about their next face off this upcoming Monday.
What will be the deciding factor that tips the scale toward the winning team?
What can an individual do to improve their game over a one week break period, if anything?
At the end of the day, you can only do so much with such little time, but mental preparation is always a controllable factor.
It could be that the team that is better mentally prepared will come out with a win this Monday, but who is to say who will win in that department?
After all, it’s really an unmeasurable stat, and we can only guess.
No matter what, though, only one team can leave next week and still be undefeated. There’s no working around it.
Who will it be?
I guess we just have to wait and find out…
