Flyers Stay Hot, Run Past Counselors 74-57

The Meridian Flyers defeated the Muddy River Counselors on Tuesday night in Jackson, MS by a score of 74-57 to keep their winning streak alive.

The Flyers started off the game nailing 3 three pointers in a row en route to an 18-1 start in the first quarter. They were able to use this momentum to take a 24-3 lead at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Counselors picked it up with a few buckets from Chris Purnell and King Williams, which left the halftime score 39-18 lead for the Flyers.

In the third quarter, the Flyers expanded their lead behind excellent shooting from Eliot Tulip and Nate Sherman as well as inside scoring from big man Isaiah Davis. Meridian led 65-27 after three quarters.

In the fourth, the Counselors fought back, scoring 20 points in the first seven minutes of fourth quarter with Meridian scoring only nine. The Counselors were then able to finish the ballgame on a rush of scoring which cut the final deficit to 17.

For the Flyers, Eliot Tulip led the scoring with 19, followed by Isaiah Davis with 16, and Nate Sherman, who was the TSJW Network Player of the Game, with 13.

The Counselors were led in scoring by Chris Purnell and Caleb Sanders, who each finished the game with 17, followed by Sun Michael Williams with 12, and King Williams, who chipped in 8.

King Williams injured his foot midway through the third quarter on an and-1 score and will be evaluated on his availability.

The #4 seed Meridian Flyers (9-5)[5-4] next take the floor on Nov. 12 when they host the Scott County Flames.

The #6 seed Muddy River Counselors (1-4)[1-3] will next take the floor on Nov. 11 when they host the Hattiesburg Forerunners.
