Jackson, MS-October 20, 2025- The Meridian Flyers (0-1) came up short in the season opener, falling 61-59 to the Jackson Victors (1-0) in a hard fought matchup that went down to the final seconds.
Both teams started strong, ending the 1st quarter tied at 13-13. The Flyers took control in the 2nd quarter, outscoring the victors 10-4 to take a 23-17 lead at halftime. But Jackson stormed out of the break, hitting nearly every shot in the 3rd and outscoring Meridian 28-15 to go up 45-38. The Flyers battled back with a 21-point 4th quarter, cutting the lead to 2, but couldn’t quite complete the comeback.
“When it comes down to the wire like that, it’s anyone’s game”, said Cooper Franklin, who led all scorers with 33 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. “We played phenomenal-just need tighten up on turnovers, free throws, and other minor mistakes.”
Brody Coker added 8 points, 17 rebounds, and 11 assists, while Blake Bredow chipped in 11 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists. Asa Holden led the way for the Victors, scoring 20 of their 61 points.
The Flyers will look for redemption when they meet the Victors again on December 9, 2025.
