Counselors (JV) Valiant Effort Not Enough, Discovery School Survives

The Muddy River Counselors JV basketball team drops the season opener on the road against the Discovery School Lions 33-30.

The Lions of Discovery Christian School jumped to a lead they kept through the first three quarters. Leading by as much as 18 in the game and 16 heading into the fourth, the Lions were riding high.

As the fourth quarter came, the Lions immediately scored a wide open layup, taking a 33-15 lead over the Counselors. Then the Counselors went on a tear. The run was sparked by a Luke Sanders (#10) bucket which was followed by a Sun Michael Williams (#45) three pointer. This cut the lead to 33-20.

Then the Counselors began to turn the Lions over. Due to extreme pressure from Sanders and Williams, the Lions began to throw the ball away, leading to steals by Luke Sanders, who had 7 for the night. The Counselors cut the lead to 33-30 with 17 seconds to go and had the ball on the baseline, but turned it over on the inbound due to a good defensive play by the Lions, which sealed the opening night win for the school.

The Counselors struggled from the outside, shooting 1 for 28 from three point range. while the Lions made 1, but shot only 10. Sun Michael Williams and Luke Sanders led the team in scoring with 10 apiece. Caleb Sanders led the Counselors in rebounds with nine. William Leach had the lone block for the Counselors.
