[RAYMOND, MS] The Muddy River Counselors hosted the Hattiesburg Forerunners Thursday night in the MSAHA Game of the Week at Hinds Bee Hall in Raymond, MS. The Forerunners came in undefeated with a 4-0 overall record. The Counselors came in 5-2 with losses to PCA and Little Rock.
The game started off tight with the score knotted at 6 five minutes into the game. Muddy River began to pull away to a 13-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. But then the Forerunners began to roar back. They kept the lead within 7 and cut the lead to a 25-21 deficit at halftime.
The Counselors exploded in the third quarter. Behind excellent play from the Counselors starters, Muddy River had a 23-7 advantage in the third quarter. This propelled them to a 48-28 lead after three quarters.
The Counselors continued the run into the fourth and won the game 60-33 at home. This was a highly-anticipated game and the Counselors rose to the challenge to defeat the undefeated Hattiesburg ball club.
Sun Michael Williams led the way for the Counselors with 16 points. Caleb Sanders finished with 13, Luke Sanders with 11, and Rydell Breakfield with 12. Breakfield paced the Counselors early with 9 of the 13 first quarter points that Muddy River had.
The Counselors are now riding a 4-game winning streak after Thursday’s win.
The Muddy River Counselors (6-2)[3-1] next take the court in 18U boys against the Laurel Knighthawks on Dec. 5.
