[RAYMOND, MS] The Muddy River Counselors solidify their dominance in the MSAHA with a 63-42 win over the defending champion PCA Paladins at home.
Muddy River defeated PCA in their first matchup of the 2023-24 season 47-42 in a poor shooting outing by the Counselors. PCA is a good team and the defending champs who can get hot shooting but neither team shot well and it was the lowest scoring game for the Counselors of the season up to that point.
The Counselors were rolling heading into the game. Riding a five game winning streak, Muddy River has never played better. PCA was coming off of a tough 51-42 loss to the CHEF Patriots.
The Counselors began the game suffocating the Paladins’ offense. It was 12-0 before PCA finally got on the scoreboard. The game was called very tight. The Paladins’ fans were upset as it put Timothy Singletary and Ben Howard in foul trouble early. But this also hit the Counselors as Sun Michael Williams had to sit the majority of the first quarter due to foul trouble.
At the end of the first quarter, Muddy River led 18-8, similar to the 19-8 advantage the Counselors had in the two teams’ last matchup. Unlike last time, the Counselors extended the lead in the second quarter, heading into halftime with a 37-18 lead.
The second half continued the same way for the Counselors. Caleb Sanders and Sun Michael Williams led the team with 22 points and 20 points respectively, pushing the Counselors forward as the frontrunner for the 2024 MSAHA Title.
The Muddy River Counselors 11-4 (6-0) host the Hattiesburg Forerunners on Dec. 11 in hopes to continue their hot streak.
