[Jackson, MS] The Muddy River Counselors took home their first ever 14UB Championship on Saturday Afternoon after defeating the PCA Paladins 34-13 in the championship game.
Prior to the tournament, the Counselors were considered strong favorites in the 14UB field. They were undefeated in conference and overall with a 6-0 record. The closest game of the season for them was on opening night when they defeated the Tupelo Titans 41-24.
The Counselors started off matched up with the PCA Paladins. They went up 23-2 en route to a 36-14 victory.
In the next game, they were lined up against the #2 seeded Hattiesburg Forerunners. The Counselors went on a tear, winning that one 49-10.
Since the tournament was double elimination, the PCA Paladins re-emerged. The Counselors took a 13-0 lead in that game early and ended up securing the 14UB Championship for the 2021-22 season.
Last season, the Counselors lost in the 14UB Championship Game to the Laurel Knighthawks 40-37. With losing no 14U players and adding others, the Counselors tore through the field this year. They look to repeat this king of action in the 18UB and 16UB Playoffs this weekend.
