[HATTIESBURG, MS] The MSAHA All-Conference selections were announced Thursday night in Hattiesburg during the contest and awards night of the MSAHA Playoffs. The girls and boys lists were announced as well as the alternates to fill out the MSAHA All-Star team that will travel to Flowood to take on the Jackson Prep Patriots.
The girls list was announced first and junior guard Salome Borelly won Conference Player of the Year for her second straight year, joining Jackson Victors’ Libby Grete (2018, 2019) as the only girls player to win back to back Conference Player of the Year awards. Trellis Williams of the Jackson Victors (2018, 2019) won the only back-to-back Conference Player of the Year awards on the boys side.
Coming in after Borelly on the list was Moriah Pierce of Laurel at No. 2. Emily Sherman of the Meridian Flyers finished at number 3 for the second straight year. Olivia Spradley and Anna Kate Hutson rounded out the first team.
The second team started with Holly Ensign at No. 6, then followed by Rylie King, Maddie Gygi, Lydia Archie, and Ella Archie.
Collier Waldmann, who is a senior guard for the PCA Paladins that spent one season with the team, won the MSAHA Conference Player of the Year after averaging 20 points per game throughout the season. He was followed at number 2 by Sun Michael Williams, freshman guard for the Muddy River Counselors. This the highest ranking of any freshman in MSAHA history. Kai Welch was selected at No. 3. The first team was rounded out by Ellis Boles of the Scott County Flames and Titus Waldmann of the PCA Paladins.
The second team began with freshman guard Caleb Sanders, who had a breakout season finishing with a 16 points per game average. He was followed by Drew Boggs at number 7, Jude Williams of the Jackson Victors at number 8, eighth-grader Luke Sanders at number nine, and Bradley Kelly of the Hattiesburg Forerunners at number ten.
Waldmann is the first PCA boys player to win MSAHA Conference Player of the Year since the award began in 2016 when Matt Thomas won the honor.
There were only two returning players to the all-conference list as Kai Welch fell one spot from his No. 2 spot on last year’s list and Sun Michael Williams rose four spots on the list from his No. 6 spot on last year’s list.
Only three organizations have had the Conference Player of the Year: the Jackson Victors have had 9 with boys and girls, the PCA Paladins have had 5, and the Meridian Flyers have had one with Isaiah Davis from last season.
PCA dominated the weekend by sweeping all of the championships as well as the Conference Player of the Year honors.
These players will compete together as they will take on the Jackson Prep Patriots on Feb. 10 in Flowood. Games will begin at 6 PM and will be brought to you live on MSAHA Primetime on the TSJW Network YouTube.
