The Muddy River Counselors defeated the Scott County Flames 75-64 Tuesday night in Raymond to get their third conference win.
The Counselors started the game on a tear. Caleb Sanders had six steals in the first quarter, with the team getting nine. Chris Purnell got to work early as well, as he had 14 first half points. Sun Michael Williams was quarterbacking the offense with five first half assists.
The Counselors entered the second half with a 48-24 lead and they never looked back. The Counselors kept their large lead until the last two minutes where the Flames cut the margin to the eleven point loss it ended up being.
Chris Purnell led the Counselors with 23 points and 11 rebounds, getting his season-high for the second straight game. King Williams had his first career double-double, as he finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Caleb Sanders had a near triple-double with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 9 steals. For the Flames, Nathan Moody had a great day with 26 points.
The Scott County Flames (4-11)[0-10] will next play in the tournament on Saturday when they face off against the No. 2 seed.
The Muddy River Counselors (4-7)[3-6] next take the floor Thursday night when they host the cross-town foe, the Jackson Victors.
