[LAUREL, MS] The Muddy River Counselors defeated the Laurel Knighthawks 75-48 at Salem Heights Baptist Church to nail down the #2 seed in the MSAHA.
The night also had a 16U boys game in which the Counselors held strong to defeat Laurel 49-34, locking down the top spot in the league with an 10-0 record. The Laurel Lady Hawks handed the Counselors girls a beatdown by a score of 72-11.
The game began with the Counselors taking an early lead but Laurel stayed close. The first quarter ended with Muddy River having a 15-10 lead. The second quarter stayed close the entire time. On a foul on a three pointer, Justin Bickham nailed all three free throws to give the Counselors a 34-27 lead at halftime.
The second half went heavily in the Counselors’ direction. Caleb Sanders came alive in the third quarter, scoring 10 of his 21 points for the game in the third period. The Counselors then cruised to the victory.
