Bulldogs Take First Loss Against The Poplarville Hornets

[TERRY, MS] The Terry (HS) Bulldogs lost its first game since the season started to a well-prepared team in the Poplarville (HS) Hornets on Bulldog grounds 48-6.

The Bulldogs began with a strong start, moving the ball consistently to counter the Poplarville defense. The Poplarville Hornets began to reverse the playing field. They began to use their unorthodox offense scoring 14 points within the first quarter with impressive rushing touchdowns by their running backs, Maurice Travis and Avan Jarvis.

As the second quarter progressed, the Bulldogs struggled again to stop the Hornets’ offense, allowing them to score continuously. Though the Bulldog’s defense was not as strong as they are accustomed to, linebacker Amarrien Bailey put on a dominant performance against the opposing offense making him easily the player of the night, with countless tackles, sacks, and even a fumble recovery in the second quarter. After Bailey’s recovery, it gained a new life for the Bulldogs as they scored their first touchdown, made by Nicholas Kelly late in the second quarter.

After the Bulldogs scored their first touchdown, the Hornets became an unstoppable force for the rest of the game. The Bulldogs struggled to drive the ball and had a hard time keeping them from scoring.

In the end, the Poplarville Hornets dethroned the Terry Bulldogs with a final score of 48 to 6. When asked about the upcoming game and the mindset of going against the Brandon Bulldogs, the head coach of the Terry Bulldogs, Kris Thigpen, stated, “Our players have to understand we control our own destiny. How we prepare and play will be determined on preparation.” Though he was not pleased with how they performed, he felt it was a “taste of humble pie,” so now it’s back to the drawing board.
