Will tonight be a night for the history books? Will it be the night that ‘a civilization is destroyed forever’ with no return? Will we wake up tomorrow morning in nuclear war? All of those questions have arisen in the last 48 hours due to statements from our president.
President Trump has threatened Iran with big action in recent days, even imparting a nasty Easter morning message, demanding that Iran “open the f****** strait” or they will “be living in hell”. This morning, the U.S. bombed the oil-critical Kharg Island, which controls 90% of Iran’s oil exports. If this does not cause Iran to surrender, nothing will. Trump delivered another message on Truth Social.
“A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will. However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS? We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World. 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end. God Bless the Great People of Iran!”
Obviously, the president is trying to push the Iranians to make a deal. This has long been in the president’s playbook. He speaks with hyperbole to make action happen. However, he is dealing with a situation with which he has never dealt. Iran is not just an authoritarian nation, it is an Islamic theocracy. They do not play by the same rules that secular countries do. It does not seem that they will bow the knee to economic pressures or even nuclear pressures. This seems like a losing battle for the president.
I do not believe President Trump wants to commit terrorism, which is what it would be if he indiscriminately nukes Iran. I refuse to believe he would do such a thing until he does it. Since he has never done anything that evil, I want to assume that he would not. His rhetoric indicates differently based on his Truth Social posts as of the last few days.
If we are to nuke Iran, this would be the first time nuclear weapons have been used since World War II and the first time modern nuclear weapons have ever been used. This would change history, and the blowback could be devastating.
How would other nations react to the U.S.? Trust would be severely broken with other nations, and it would license others to consider using those weapons they possess. This would lead to a much more dangerous world.
But, this world is not our home. The Bible does mention the world being consumed by fire. Is this the way that will happen? There is no way for us to know. I trust the Lord as His plan is perfect. My hope and prayer is that the United States of America, the country I love, will not participate in the wicked destruction of the world.
