The Muddy River Counselors are killing it right now.
Muddy River is 8-0 after blowing out the CHEF Patriots at home, a team in which the Counselors have had many epic battles over the last few years. The Counselors beat the Patriots 90-41, leading 35-4 after the first quarter.
This continued the level of play shown on Friday night against Hillcrest. The Cougars entered the ball game 3-1 after defeating Puckett High School a couple of nights before. Hillcrest went out to a 10-0 lead four minutes into the game. Counselors’ coach Willis Williams called a timeout and out of that timeout, the Counselors went on a run that will always be remembered in Counselors history.
By halftime, the Counselors led Hillcrest 62-23, 62-13 run in twelve minutes that included many steals, buckets and an insane alley-oop off the inbound from Sun Michael Williams to Caleb Sanders to go up 55-20.
The shock from the Cougars was obvious. That made them 0-3 against the Counselors all time, but Hillcrest has been successful the past couple of seasons as they are coming off of a 23-8 season with a 6’8″ big man.
The Counselors have responded to every test so far this season. They headed to LaCombe last week and defeated the PCA Paladins 62-53 in their closest match of the season.
The Counselors now will head down to Laurel to take on the Knighthawks.
