[RAYMOND, MS] The Muddy River Counselors wrapped up their regular season on Thursday night with a 74-49 win over the Laurel Knighthawks.
The game began with two bizarre plays in a row which left the Laurel Knighthawks with a 4-0 lead in the first minute of the game. After that, the Counselors exploded. Senior Counselors guard Rydell Breakfield began the game by scoring the first 11 Muddy River points. Sun Michael Williams soon followed as he was hot-shooting from the field. After the first period, the Muddy River Counselors led by a score of 29-6 with Breakfield and Williams with 13 points apiece.
In the second quarter, Laurel showed better against the Counselors’ bench, winning the period 16-15 for a 44-22 halftime score.
The third quarter belonged to the Counselors as they outscored Laurel 22-9. In the fourth, Coach Willis Williams of the Muddy River Counselors rode the game out with his seniors. Breakfield finished the game with 21 points.
This win leaves the Counselors with a perfect 10-0 conference record and an impressive 16-4 overall record. In the 16 and under boys division, Muddy River finished 12-0, while in 14U, they finished 6-0. The Counselors will be the #1 seed in every MSAHA boys tournaments, an unbelievable accomplishment for an organization in its fourth season.
The Muddy River Counselors will next hit the floor in Monroe, LA as they will compete in the NCHBC Gulf Coast District Tournament as the #3 seed. Details will come forth in the coming days.
