[RIDGELAND, MS] The Jackson Victors and the Muddy River Counselors faced off for their second meeting of the season. The first meeting ended in a 93-50 win for the Counselors giving them their highest point total in any game in their history. This time, they met at Sunnybrook Children’s Home, Jackson’s home court.
The evening started with a 14U boys game. Last meeting ended with a 34-23 Muddy River win in which the Victors led late in the third quarter. This one was not as close with the Counselors leading 16-0 after the first quarter. Muddy River would go on to win 36-17.
The 16U boys ball game was a matchup between the #1 Counselors and the #7 Victors. The Counselors scored a 16U-record 33 points in the first quarter. Mind you, these are six minute quarters. The Counselors won the game 66-14.
Finally, the 18U ball game rolled around. The Victors came into the game with a 4-3 conference record and a 5-14 overall record. The Counselors came in with a 7-2 conference record and an 11-4 overall record with a win over Laurel the night before by a score of 75-48.
The Counselors began this ball game in form with the end of the first quarter at 39-5, which again set the Counselors record for a quarter. After this, the Counselors cruised but kept up the tough defensive effort. After giving up 50 points to Jackson last time, they only let 25 points go this time, prevailing 78-25.
As MSAHA play closes, it is clear that the PCA Paladins are the Counselors’ biggest threat heading into the postseason, as that is where they have lost their two conference games. Hattiesburg is another threat and the Counselors have only played them once as the second meeting was canceled.
The Counselors 13-4(8-2) will next play on the road in non-conference play against the Central Hinds Cougars in Raymond on Jan. 19.
