[Laurel, MS] On Thursday, the Laurel Knighthawks wrestled down a very scrappy Central Baptist Raiders team. Laurel defeated the Raiders 65-53. This victory marked the 100th win of this year’s Knighthawks senior core group. Knowing that the Raiders are a group of players that hustle, Laurel had to play (you guessed it) “team ball” to come out victorious.
The game started with the Knighthawks coming out strong by winning the first quarter 19-11. Silas Ensign scored 7 of his 20 points in the first frame. The second quarter was another story, with the Raiders out scoring Laurel 12-20.
Coming out of the half, the Knighthawks adjusted their play by shutting down the Raider’s quick scoring offense and tenacious defense. Laurel put up a 16 point third quarter while holding the Raiders to just 8. The third quarter ended with the Knighthawks in control on both ends of the floor. Laurel put the game to bed with the final score being 65-53.
Three of the Knighthawks starting five scored double digits. Silas Ensign stole the show by scoring 20 points and playing shut-down defense. Caleb Jenkins also turned in a solid performance, playing a physical down low game, pouring in 14 points. Jacob Moree scored 13 on the offensive side while playing fantastic on the defensive side of the ball.
Laurel (10-3)[4-0] has a quick turn around, traveling to Wayne Academy on Saturday. Tip off is at 7:30 PM.
