[Hattiesburg, MS] As the “self-appointed” beat writer for the Laurel Knighthawks, I have mentioned many times this season that it is crucial for the Knighthawks to play team ball. However, most people assume that team ball only consists of passing and not being a selfish player. When in actuality, team ball is also taking your shot. It would be selfish to pass up a great shot when you as a player have proven yourself to be a great shooter. Silas Ensign is one of the best three point shooters in the league. He has proven that the three ball is an effective shot in his arsenal. On Thursday, he displayed once again that he is still one of the top three point shooters around.
On Thursday, the Laurel Knighthawks traveled to Hattiesburg to take on the Central Baptist Raiders. The game was hard fought, ultimately ending in an Knighthawks victory. At the end of the first quarter, the Knighthawks were leading the Raiders 21-11. The Raiders would make the game a little more interesting, closing the gap to 32-24 at the end of the half with Laurel in the lead.
The third quarter saw the Knighthawks come out firing on all cylinders. Laurel scored 20 points, while holding Central Baptist to only 11. The Knighthawks put the game to bed with a 19 point fourth quarter. The final score was 71-51, with Laurel in the win column.
Multiple Knighthawk players walked away with double digit points. Hopefully, this will become a trend for the rest of the season. Kai Welch scored 15 points while Jacob Moree poured in 12. Silas Ensign, however, stole the show. He scored 28 points, including 5 from beyond the arch. Eli Carter came down with 16 rebounds, and handled the ball extremely well. Laurel as a team had 16 assists. In short, the Knighthawks played team ball.
On Saturday, the Laurel Knighthawks (3-1)[1-0] will travel to Tupelo to take on the Tupelo Titans (0-1)[0-1]. Tip off is at 3 P.M.
