Cold Shooting Plagues Knighthawks in First Loss of the Season

[Purvis, MS] On Saturday, the Laurel Knighthawks traveled down to Purvis to take on the Lamar Christian Lions. The Knighthawks played great defense all game long, holding the Lions to just 43 points. This wasn’t enough, as Laurel suffered its first loss of the season, losing 43-26. It was a close game for the first half, with the Knighthawks pulling to within one point. The gap would soon widen and at the end of the first half it was a tight 23-14.

Lamar would come out of the half and make adjustments against the Knighthawks defense. The Lions would score 12 points in the third quarter, while holding the Knighthawks to just 8 points. Lamar Christian would finish Laurel off with an 8 point fourth quarter. The Knighthawks shooting was a little cold today, with many shots rimming out. Laurel however, did play tight and fundamental defense all game.

Laurel’s bench showed flashes of a bright future. Mainly in the form of point guard Caleb Blankenship. Caleb was one of the first subs, and handled the ball very well. Caleb was a great floor facilitator, and took quality shots.

The Knighthawks (1-1) will do their best to rebound against conference foe Meridian Flyers (1-0) on Tuesday, Nov. 2. Tip-Off will be at 7:45 in Hickory, MS. The game will be broadcasted on TSJW Network.
