The Meridian Flyers defeated the Scott County Flames 71-54 in Carthage on opening night.
The game began with both teams putting up points, with Meridian holding a 12-10 lead just halfway through the first quarter. Then the Flyers exploded, finishing the first quarter with a 25-14 lead.
From there, the Flyers cruised to victory with their lead margin not changing much throughout the rest of the game.
The Meridian Flyers (1-0) host a non-conference matchup against the Grace Christian Eagles on Oct. 29. The Scott County Flames (0-1) will head to Jackson to take on the Victors on Oct. 22.
