#3 Knighthawks Start Off Hot, Beat #6 Counselors in First Round, 68-38

The #3 Laurel Knighthawks defeated the #6 Muddy River Counselors 68-38 Saturday evening to advance to the next round against the #2 Jackson Victors.

The game started off slow for the Knighthawks, as they went down 7-4 early. But then they flipped the switch and commenced to going on a 26-0 run. Laurel was sure to keep the Counselors off the three point line, getting them out of their comfort zone. Though the Counselors woke up and kicked back the scoring in the second half, the deficit was too much, and the Knighthawks won 68-38.

Coach Cliff Jenkins of the Laurel Knighthawks noted after the game, “The last time we played the Counselors, they made a good adjustment to us…..Our game plan tonight was to focus on our half-court offense.”

Laurel was surely able to excel inside the lane with Kai Welch and Isaac Housley having good games. Jacob Moree and Silas Ensign had exceptional games as well for the Knighthawks.

The #3 Laurel Knighthawks will advance to face the #2 Jackson Victors on Feb. 9 with a chance to reach the MSAHA Finals for the third straight year.

The #6 Muddy River Counselors will face an uphill battle where they will have to win five straight to capture the championship. They will face the #7 Scott County Flames in an elimination game on Feb. 9.
