Knighthawks Continue Fight for 2-Seed, Beat the Counselors

The Laurel Knighthawks defeated the Muddy River Counselors 74-54 on Monday night to finish their regular season with a shot at the No. 2 seed in the conference.

The night started off with the 16u game with big time seeding implications. The Counselors took the win on two clutch free throws from Luke Sanders to give the Counselors a good shot at the number one seed in the MSAHA.

After the thrilling win for the Counselors, the varsity game had a different result. The Knighthawks started off taking a 20-13 to start the game. The Counselors struggled shooting the basketball, with Sun Michael Williams and Luke Sanders each missing their first six three-pointers.

In the second quarter, the score stayed at a ten point difference with Laurel in the lead. But right at the end of the first half, the Knighthawks went on a flurry, taking a 15 point lead at halftime.

For the rest of the game, the Knighthawks kept an 18 to 20 point lead until finally winning the game 74-54.

Chris Purnell had a big game with a season-high 21 points. Sun Michael Williams finished the night with 17 points.

The Laurel Knighthawks (11-6)[8-4] are done for the regular season and now they wait to see where they will end up in the seeding.

The Muddy River Counselors (3-7)[2-6] take the court again tomorrow at home when they take on the Scott County Flames.
